In this series, we will cover license user types and configuration needed for marketing cloud connect.

A user will need a license for Marketing Cloud & Sales/Service cloud. Here are some of user role types and permissions to get a more clear understanding.

MC Admin-
sets up and configures a Marketing Cloud account and users. This admin works with the Salesforce CRM administrator to install and set up Marketing Cloud Connect

CRM Admin-
sets up and configures a Salesforce CRM account and users. This admin works with the Marketing Cloud administrator to install and set up Marketing Cloud Connect

MC Connect API User-completes account level connection between two clouds. Try to use a dedicated user for this with proper permissions to business units as it will decide what data will be available for use within Sales/Service cloud.

MC Connect Admin-manages setup of connection within Sales/Service cloud

SF System User-completes account level access between two clouds. This user’s access decides data availability for MC data into CRM, and try to use a dedicated user (will cost a license).

MC Connect User-someone who is beneficiary of connection.

  • Access to Marketing Cloud Connect functionality in the Sales or Service Cloud is managed through CRM permissions and page layouts.
  • Access to Marketing Cloud Connect functionality in the Marketing Cloud is managed through Marketing Cloud Connect permissions.

CRM Permissions

All MC users need to have 2 key permission sets in Sales/Service Cloud,
Marketing Cloud for AppExchange Admin & Marketing Cloud for Appexchange User.
